New Mexico State Senator Dianna J. Duran is the Caucus Chair of the Senate Republicans and has held that position since 2003. She serves District 40 which encompasses a large portion of Otero County and also includes one precinct in Dona Ana County.
Senator Duran is in her fifth term in the Senate. She currently serves as a member of the Senate Rules and Senate Corporations and Transportations Committees. She has served on numerous interim committees including Legislative Council and Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committees to name a few. She has served previously on the Redistricting Committee following the 2000 census and a number of interim committees relating to elections.
She also served as Otero County Clerk from 1989-1992. She began working in the Otero County Clerk’s office in 1992 and retired from that office in 2004. Dianna was the Republican nominee in 1998 for the office of Secretary of State.
Dianna was born and raised in Tularosa, New Mexico, is a graduate of Tularosa High School. She is married to Leo Barraza, and together they have 5 children and 13 grandchildren.
