Sen. William F. Burt of Alamogordo was appointed by Gov. Susana Martinez to occupy the District 40 seat held by Dianna Durán who resigned after being elected secretary of state.  Burt's district covers parts of Otero and Doña Ana counties.  He is a business owner, serves on the Corporations and Transportation Committee and is the ranking member on the Public Affairs Committee.
