ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) — The Michael Wiener scandal has taken on a life of its own in the wake of what he says was a sightseeing trip through a red light district. Now Wiener is taking some hits on the internet, from a self-styled political watchdog.
Even commissioner Wiener's attorney admitted these are funny; a man dressed in a hot-dog costume going by the name “Bad Weiner”.
“I can't help that women are attracted to me,” the fake Wiener says on one of the videos, “It seems like everywhere I go everywhere women are always asking to take pictures with me.”
The YouTube videos spoof Wiener's recent problems. From complaints from his female co-workers about inappropriate comments to the now infamous picture of him in a Philippine red light district flanked by prostitutes. The fake Wiener sat down with News 13’s Alex Tomlin.
“Obviously my hair wasn't working for me so it's like hey, let's do this,” fake Wiener actor Matt Gentry said.
This isn't the first time someone has used Wieners situation to get a laugh. There was the twitter account called Michael Wiener's hair, and then a comment on late night TV by Jimmy Kimmel.
Stories about the incident involving the commissioner are all over the internet. And while these guys may be making laughs, Gentry and the group behind the videos says it’s more than that.
“I think this embodies a lot of politicians not necessarily one person,” said Gentry. “You know there is a lot of people that have a lack of integrity and we just want to expose that in a fun and educational way.”
Gentry says he has not received any comments from Commissioner Wiener but he looks forward to them.
The guys behind the videos say they are not on a certain side and will be making spoofs about democrats and republicans this election season. Their next target we hear, congressional candidate Eric Griego.
Commissioner Wiener's attorney said they hope this story blows over and that it has been blown way out of proportion.
They maintain Wiener was only taking in the sights when the picture was taken.
