City unveiling new website, contest

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) — The city of Albuquerque will unveil a new more, user-friendly website Friday and launch a contest for apps that take advantage of its features.

For the past year city departments have been working with the local web-based business Real Time Solutions to create a new website for the city.

Mayor Richard j. Berry says the current site received about seven million hits a year, so it was important for the new site be more current and easier to navigate.

It will have features like bill paying and live streaming.

"What we've also tried to do is help citizens find the information they're looking for not only through the navigation, but we've really enhanced and made the search capabilities of this website robust," Chris Schroeder of Real Time Solutions said.

City officials are challenging residents to create apps that can be used on the new website, which officially debuts Friday at 9 p.m.

Winners of the contest will split a $30,000 prize.
