Bingaman announces anti-drug grant

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) — Sen. Jeff Bingaman has announced that nine New Mexico groups have been awarded federal grants aimed at fighting drugs.

The New Mexico Democrat said Thursday that the funding seeks to help support community groups foster citizen participation in local drug prevention efforts. The funding comes from the Office of National Drug Control Policy's Drug-Free Communities Support.

The Carlsbad Community Anti-Drug/Gang Coalition and the Shiprock Anti-Meth Task Force were among those to receive $125,000 grants each.
