Ballot error to cost nearly $20,000

SANTA FE (KRQE) — An error on ballots sent to roughly 29,000 retired workers has forced the New Mexico Public Employee’s Retirement Association to print and mail new election ballots.

Officials are estimating the error will likely cost the public retirement system about $20,000 for the election of a single board seat.

The error was a phrase that required those voting to certify they were "municipal" voters.

It should have said "retiree" voters.
