DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is taking a break from debate preparations to watch reporters who cover him play football against his senior staff.
Romney on Sunday headed to Delray Beach, walking through the sand to the teams standing in flag-football uniforms. Romney handed bracelets to the team captains, New York Times reporter Ashley Parker and Romney Communications Director Gail Gitcho. Romney said they read, "Clear eyes, full hearts, America can't lose" before officiating the game's coin toss.
Romney led his staff in an opening cheer, quote, "Clear eyes, full hearts." His aides responded, quote, "can't lose." It's a slogan from TV's "Friday Night Lights."
Romney refused to answer questions about Iran and new election polls from the small group of reporters assigned to cover the event.
