Mo. Sen. McCaskill using Romney in ad against Akin

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill is launching a new ad featuring video of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney denouncing her opponent, Todd Akin.

Akin, meanwhile, unveiled a new ad Thursday featuring praise for his candidacy from a woman who says she once was raped and had an abortion.

Both ads stem from a remark Akin made an August about women's bodies having ways of avoiding pregnancy in what he called "legitimate rape." Akin apologized and said he was wrong, but Romney and other top national Republicans urged him to quit the Missouri Senate race. Akin instead forged ahead with his campaign.

McCaskill's new Romney ad comes as a rebuttal to a spot from the Republican-leaning Now or Never Political Action Committee. That group is encouraging Romney supporters to also vote for Akin.
