WASHINGTON (AP) — New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray Luj n has been appointed a chief deputy whip for the 113rd Congress.
Whips are responsible for mobilizing the party vote on important bills before they come to the floor for a vote.
They also act as a liaison between members and the caucus to build support for the Democratic agenda.
In addition to Luj n, House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer appointed Reps. Keith Ellison and Terri Sewell to his team.
Luj n, who represents northern New Mexico, says he looks forward to helping promote an agenda that creates jobs and opportunities for the American people.
